REVIEWS
Young people and middle-aged people (like myself!) having a blast learning really cool and fun, hip hop dance routines!
Yolanda is so sweet, funny, engaging, encouraging, receptive and she's an incredible dancer and teacher. Auchi is also amazing! They are both huge talents. Within just the first few classes, it was amazing to see all of us move out of our comfort zones and feel free in our bodies--it's truly remarkable what a safe and comfortable environment . Yolanda creates and nurtures.
I didn't realize it at the time but it's more than just a dance class, it's a confidence booster! It's a great value too--a great work out for much less than most exercise classes!
Highly recommend! Don't hesitate signing up or taking an intro class--guarantee you will love it!!
True to their word, Yolanda and her team delivered just that! I had learned a little choreo in high school musical theatre, so I started at Level 2 and it was perfect. Each week I was challenged, but never overwhelmed and even when I did stumble, I was met with so much encouragement from Yolanda and the rest of the class.
I left the course with some new skills, new friends and I've already signed up for the next session!
If you're new to dance you will be safe here!!! Not like other "beginner" classes full of industry professionals, though I believe she has multiple class level options available if you're looking for a more intermediate class.
I popped into a free trial class and that same night signed up for a 5-week "absolute beginners" course that concluded with a performance night for friends and family! I remember being so nervous each class and especially nervous the night of the performance, but it was such a great way to meet other people wanting to break out of their shell and overtime there really becomes a sense of community. I was enrolled in three "Level 1" beginner courses over the course of 8 months and had so much fun along the way.
These classes really became the highlight of my week in a new town not knowing many people. Takeaway: Yolanda's classes are great for anyone looking to have some fun, meet new people, learn some moves and blow off some steam after work on a weekday. Highly recommend!
- Yolanda is like sunshine, a disco ball, your favorite fun aunt, and a badass dancer all rolled into one. She is 100% the best teacher I've ever had--she's patient, observant, humorous, uplifting, and just someone you really want to be around. - Everyone is just starting out! It's so nice to bond with others who really want to have fun and are doing this to learn a new skill. Everyone is so supportive and empathetic.
- There is a wonderful lesson that is taught in the background throughout the course and that is "showing up for your team." Because that's what you become--a dance team. We all made a commitment to show up, be on time, and give it our best, so when we fulfill on that commitment, that's when magic really happens.
The last thing I want to share is the compliment my 14-year-old son gave me when I showed him my choreography. He said: "You didn't look as silly as I thought you would. It was actually kinda fluid. Like... professional." Coming from a Gen-Z teen, that says A LOT.
Yolanda does her magic; she feels you out and builds out a choreographed routine that fits your style and personality. Yolanda brings the energy, skills, and teaching ability so you can Practice, practice, practice.
Then she puts together a performance night to show off your skills. On performance night, Will you be shitting your pants? Hell yeah. Will you be a nervous wreck and sweating, absolutely. Will you find that secret gear that drives you to do something challenging that you never knew you could do, ya damn right you will.
And after you're done, you will discover a newfound confidence, that extra pep in your step that your neighbor don't got. You will be the coolest person on your block cuz you got the routine down pat and the memory you murdered the dance floor on performance night.
Dancing is fun, trying to find your one two step is hard, and even more challenging trying to do it in sync with your partner, but Yolanda will show you the way and you'll never regret it a single day in your life. Stop thinking and start dancing. See you on the dance floor.
Yolanda is skilled and talented while also having a special gift for breaking down steps so that the novice hip hop dancer can pick them up. She is patient, down to earth and kind. She will go slowly enough that the novice dancer can keep up, but you will still walk out of class feeling like you accomplished something and had fun too. I can't say enough good things about Yolanda. She has been such a blessing to find, allowing me to explore dance in a way that I always wanted to but never thought I'd be able to.
